Writer/Producer
Other Projects
Aside from short films and Web videos, I'm also the producer of a new Web series airing on StrikeTV. I've also developed a kids' television series; produced DVDs; worked on music videos; and produced corporate videos. This page provides information about some of these additional projects.

Mission Possible (w.t.) Children's Television Series
Working with my UrbanMouse Productions partner, Aram Bauman, in 2005 I created a children's reality competition series. We produced a one-hour pilot and are seeking a cable home for the show, which couples an urban attitude with a science & technology hook. If you're interested in backing an original kids' series, please email me. I'll get back to you right away!

Anyone But Me
I'm the producer of Anyone But Me, a new Web-based episodic series, which premieres on StrikeTV  on December 8. Brought to you by award-winning writer/director Tina Cesa Ward and executive producer Susan Miller, Anyone But Me is about New York teens coming of age in a post-9/11 world.

With an outstanding ensemble cast, Anyone But Me introduces a new generation – ethnically diverse, gay and straight – searching for love and acceptance in the post-9/11 age. The series realistically portrays the hopes, dreams and daily struggles of 21st-century teenagers as they confront their own diverse identities and ride the waves of sexual awakening.

Shot in high-definition digital video on location in and around New York City, Anyone But Me is a fresh take on the universal conflicts that shape us all.

Executive producer Susan Miller is an Obie award-winning playwright (My Left Breast) and was a consulting producer/writer on Showtime’s groundbreaking series The L Word and ABC’s landmark series thirtysomething, among other TV hits. Director/writer Tina Cesa Ward screened her short film In Their Absence at more than a dozen film festivals around the globe and was awarded Best Short Film four times.

The innovative new Web-based network StrikeTV, created during the writer’s strike to produce and promote original programming for the Web, selected Anyone But Me to debut during the network’s first quarter online. StrikeTV launched its Web-based programming platform in October to critical acclaim. With more than 40 series created by talent from such shows as The Office, The Daily Show, Malcolm in the Middle and Friends, its lineup comprises the largest collection of original Hollywood-produced content ever created for an Internet audience.

Additionally, A4AMobile, creator of MyBroadway.com, has selected Anyone But Me for broadcast on mobile devices, making the series a uniquely cross-platform production. Get show updates on your phone by texting "ABM" to 299669.

Careers in Science DVD Series (Producer)

Working with science and technology content provider ScienCentral.com, I produced an educational DVD series for Primedia Inc's Films & Media Group (FMG). Aimed at junior high and high school students, the series emphasizes that a career in the sciences is "not your ordinary desk job," nor are scientists just geeky guys and gals in lab coats.

Featuring interviews with leading scientists across the country, the series goes beyond the lab to show each scientist out in the field, from the jungles of Madagascar with entomologist Brian Fisher to the surface of the Yellowstone Caldera with volcanologist Jake Lowenstern to the eye of a hurricane with meteorologist and hurricane hunter Stan Goldenberg.

"The series will dispel any misconceptions students may have about science jobs being boring," wrote a reviewer for the School Library Journal, adding that it's a "a must-have for high school students."

This was a particularly fun and rewarding project for me because it leveraged my deep experience writing about career-related topics, taught me a lot about science and the latest research trends, and enabled me to advance my production, scriptwriting and editing skills. Trailers for the other two titles, Careers in the Life Sciences and Careers in the Earth Sciences, are also available.

2006 Big Apple Grapple DVD Set (Field Producer)

At the 2006 Big Apple Grapple, sponsored by the New York Arm Wrestling Association, I field-produced live interview segments with the athletes for inclusion in a 2-DVD set covering the event.

I pre-interviewed the athletes, prepped the host, and directed each interview segment. Actor and former Big Apple Grapple champion Sean Ringgold, a big guy with a big personality, hosted the interviews; he knew the arm wrestling world and many of the athletes, and he brought his own unique spin to each segment

We were shooting in HD with the Panasonic HVX and P2 cards, and one of the big logistical challenges was ensuring that the P2 cards got dumped to a hard drive and returned to the cameraman in a timely fashion. Since we were grabbing athletes on the fly, in between rounds, we couldn't afford any downtime waiting on cards -- we had to be ready when the athlete was ready. In pre-production I ensured that we would have enough laptops on-site to keep the action flowing and I worked out an efficient system with my card runners that got us through the day without any glitches.

By the end of the day we had interviewed about 30 athletes, including both the male and female champions, and the interview segments are edited into the live event coverage on the DVDs. Adam Silver, of StrengthNet Entertainment, produced and directed. (The screenshot above is courtesy of Adam; be sure to check out the trailer by clicking on the link in the title.)
G Fella Music Video Reel (Producer/AD)

Directed by Mr. Kaves of The Lordz for New York-based Italian-American hip-hop artist G Fella, this project literally involved a cast of hundreds (my very capable second A.D., Steven Boling, handed me a stack of about 250 talent release forms at the end of the day) -- not to mention a  large entourage and dozens of groupies. In one very long day at the Gaslight Nightclub in Norwalk, Conn., we shot videos for three different songs, which were edited together into a single artist's reel.

We left New York at 6 a.m., started setting up at 8 a.m., were shooting by 10 a.m., and finished, on schedule, at 11 p.m.  We had about a dozen different set-ups, during which I had to juggle all the regular duties of a producer and A.D. while also keeping the groupies at bay, making nice with the entourage and ensuring that my crew didn't get distracted by all the... eye candy in the joint. It was definitely a memorable shoot.

We pulled it off thanks to Kaves' commitment to pre-production planning and his excellent storyboards as well as the hard work and tenacity of my crew.

Corporate Videos
I've scripted and produced a number of corporate videos, ranging from customer testimonials to trade show videos to comic videos for management meetings to training videos and tutorials. Since most of this work has been company confidential, I can't link to any of it here, but I can provide samples on request. If you have a corporate project you'd like to talk to me about, please use the link below to email me. I'll get back in touch with you within 24 hours.
